Once the Giant
This was the tallest building in the world for 25 years (1973-1998) and was built by the largest retailer in the world (Sears). Each record has now been surpassed many times.

The Center Of It All
The galactic core setting over remote eastern Utah. This is literally the center of everything that we know of.
I took advantage of there being a very dark sky area close to where I was staying and spent some time in the early morning hours shooting. I'm lucky that the advancing cloud cover didn't obscure more of the Milky Way.
This area is interesting in that there isn't even a small town for 70 miles in the direction this shot was taken and if you kept going, there aren't any large cities on this trajectory in the whole of North America.Utahastronomyastrophotographymilky waynightroadsstarsphotoblog

New Life
The Provo City Center Temple - what a remarkable building, and an amazing story. A fire gutted this 132-year old pioneer tabernacle and left only the outside walls standing. Now it's been given a new life as the newest temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Plenty of Room Here
Looking out at the very empty land from the top of an ancient volcanic rim (Doherty Slide) in southern Oregon. I loved driving through this isolated part of the western United States. If you went directly toward the horizon of this scene, you wouldn't intersect a town for over 200 miles - and then you'd be at the Pacific coast.

Wide Warm Beaches
It was a beautiful beach day in Southern California. Looking at this image, I can feel the warm sand on my bare feet, the cooler ocean breeze, the sound of the surf and the seagulls. I love the beach. :) These little sand mountains came from a heavy rainstorm the day before. I have happy memories of time spent on these beaches when I was a child.

"Who Keepest Covenant"
Almost 3000 years ago, King Solomon began his dedication of the temple in Israel with these words, "Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart" - 1 Kings 8:23. Almost exactly 180 years ago, in 1836, Joseph Smith used similar language when dedicating the Kirtland Temple (see D&C 109:1). This Sunday, the new Provo City Center temple will be dedicated and will immediately be put to work for the salvation of God's children.

Eternity
"Everything that occurs in the temple is uplifting and ennobling. It speaks of life here and life beyond the grave. It speaks of the importance of the individual as a child of God. It speaks of the importance of the family and the eternity of the marriage relationship."

Etched in Stone
Mount Rushmore - what a place! I captured a panorama of these gigantic sculptures last summer. Carved from the solid granite of the Black Hills of South Dakota, it's stunning to see in person. Unfortunately, the sky was pretty flat, so I replaced it with a sunset I shot in Utah. Much better. :)

For Time and All Eternity
Almost 14 years ago, my wife and I married in this beautiful pioneer temple in Manti, Utah. The reasons I chose to be joined in a covenant with her and God in this place are personal and sacred to me, but in short, I truly believe that if we keep the promises we made here, she and I will be linked together for eternity.
