Saggy Baggy Elephant
The elephant decided to turn its back on me, so this is what I got. :)

We Met at Twilight
On the way home from a family fishing trip in the mountains, I drove around a bend and saw several deer, silhouetted against the quickly fading light. My wife convinced me to pull over and I'm glad I did. This was one of the most stunning scenes I'd seen in a long time. There's something special and majestic about seeing wild deer in their natural habitat. It was a moving experience.

My daughter Rebekah, at 7 months old, had had enough and was not going to listen anymore...or maybe she just blinked. :)

Standing Alone
This giant coast redwood was standing alone in the forest, while most of the other trees were growing closely together. It reminds me of the words to a favorite song: "when I stand with God, I never stand alone", and a scripture: "fear not what man can do, for God shall be with you forever and ever" (Doctrine & Covenants 122:9).

Desert River
The Colorado River, just before the Glen Canyon Dam in northern Arizona. What difference water makes! No matter how hot and dry the air, with the presence of water, life can flourish.
It seems to me that this is true in life also. Regardless of how harsh the environment around us is, if we have _____ (insert your symbol of choice here), we can flourish. (Ideas: faith in God, hope, a supportive family, knowledge of the truth, balance (in life), etc.
Please post your version of this truth in the comments...I'd love to hear.desertreflectionwaterphotoblognature

Sunrise Color, Rocky Mountains
Very early one morning, I caught the sunrise color over the peaks of Mt. Timpanogos. I love the raw natural beauty of the place I live.

This photo evokes a sense of exploration and adventure in me. I especially like the contrast between the colorful balloon and the colorless mountain cliffs.

Winter Storm at Sunset
As I was about to leave work one evening in early February, I looked out my window and saw this magnificent sight. After a violent entrance earlier that day, the storm was retreating. I love the reflection of the color on the water.

Away they soared, farther and farther from the safety of the ground. Though it seemed impossible to go any higher, still there was emptiness above them...

Heaven-Rescued Land
Happy Birthday, America! Here's my birthday wish, from the words of your anthem:
"Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation"
- The Star-Spangled Banner
As it has been written, "...Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great."From All Photos

The Water Hole
This old building looks abandoned at first glance...but if you look closer, you can see a satellite TV dish, a telephone box, an electric meter, etc. I wonder if it's a business or a home...strange.

Melons
I went on a melon-buying spree at the store the other day. I love trying new melons, and a couple of these were new to me. Clockwise, starting at the top: Watermelon, Galia (cross between canteloupe and honeydew), Honeydew (orange flesh), Crenshaw, Casaba, Cantaloupe, and in the middle, Juan Canary. So far, we've only tried a couple, and my favorite thus far was the Casaba...such a clean and fresh taste.

Nature's Palette
I thought it was time for a bit of color, since yesterday's photo was so monotone. I had to modify this photo to bring the color out...visit http://danielhopkins.com/gallery/extras/Natures_Palette_original.jpg to see the original. It was taken a couple days ago during a dust storm.
