Intrusion
There is a lot of construction going on near where I live and it's interesting to see the natural landscape encroached upon.

Portal to the Peaks
I thought the cliffs in the lower center of the photo looked like a portal leading to the snowy peaks of Mt. Timpanogos. This was taken near where I work, in Orem, Utah.

Y Tree
I found this tree all alone in a field in Colorado. Here's how it looks from space, just for fun.

Thanks and honor to those who gave "the last full measure of devotion" to the cause of freedom. We owe much to them.

Flower Amid the Thorns
Yesterday, my father, brother, daughter and I went camping and after breakfast went on a hike. We had a great time, and among other things, found this cactus in bloom. It's amazing that such a beautiful flower emerges from a plant like this.

Tall Pole
These poles stand above a railroad yard and they are VERY tall. I like the minimalist feel of this photo. It's also a good shot of the "Belt of Venus" (look it up).

Cloudy Cove
I love the feel of the Oregon coast...cool, wet, rugged. This secluded cove is visible from the road, but I'm not sure how accessible it was. I would have loved to explore it though, if I'd had the time.

Sunset Reflected
I had to pull over and shoot this sunset reflected in what was probably a flooded field. It had rained all day, but it cleared in time for some great sunset colors!

Snowy Slope
On a cold January evening, this mountain near my home appeared both beautiful and treacherous. I especially like the perpendicular angles and the high contrast in this photo.

See the Sea
I love the sea. I love the cool/cold water on my skin, the ins and outs of the waves on the sand, the smell of the salty breeze. I also love sharing it all with my children. I feel like going to the beach now…

A Long Way Up
I love hiking mountains. There is something about being on the peak, about conquering the mountain, that is exhilarating. Scripturally, mountain peaks were often the places where God communed with man. It’s that way in life, too. Challenges, while tough, can provide opportunity to overcome…and overcoming challenges can bring perspective and can add zest to life. And it’s often because of challenges, that we learn and grow and are able to commune with God.

Pastoral Scene
The older I grow, the more I come to respect the working of the earth and the old, pastoral ways. There is something to be said for being able to feed and care for oneself and one’s family from nature.

Steeple and Sky
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27).
My wife’s maternal grandfather passed to the other side yesterday. He was an example of true religion to me. I believe that his lifetime of down-to-earth goodness, generosity and love will be of more worth in the eyes of God than all of the empty prayers and promises of the religious zealot and casual Christian alike. We must do more than give “lip-service” to our religion. We must live it. I honor this exemplary man for his goodness and love.buildingscloudsreligiousskysunsetphotoblog

Sunset and Spring Storm
I live in a gorgeous area! I love this type of warm light that comes at sunset…and in this photo, I especially love the contrast between the trees and the snowy mountains and clouds. I am grateful for the weather, for seasons, for light.
