To Dance is to Fly
I got to try my hand at painting with motion the other day at a local photographer's meetup. So fun! Thanks to the dancers and the hosts. I had a hard time choosing which one to share - you can see more here: http://bit.ly/1LlMzQq

To the Most High
The Boston, Massachusetts Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first night I was in the area, I visited this temple, but the lights were already off for the night, so the next night I arrived earlier. and was able to shoot for 30 minutes while the lights were still on. Oh, how I love the temples. I feel connected to God while I'm there.

Skylight
An early autumn sky, alight with the setting sun. This image feels a bit melancholy to me, like the passing of time and the realization that life is short. I noticed the sky as I was watching my son's soccer game, and as is usual, the light and color lasted but a moment, but I caught it!

Light from Boston's financial district reflects on the frozen Charles River. This was a very cold and windy night. The wind made it hard to keep my tripod and camera still. Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Every Ending is a New Beginning
2015 was in many ways a hard year for my family and I. I feel much older, much more experienced, and somewhat wiser. In a way, this silhouetted horizon reminds me of the ups and downs of the past twelve months.
This makes sense to me, since I believe that I'm not here by accident, and sometimes the necessary experiences of life aren't easy.
As always, though, I have great hope. I feel grateful for my countless blessings and feel that the best is truly yet to come! Welcome 2016!cloudsdrivebyminimalismmonochromemountainsnaturepanoramasilhouetteskysymbolismphotoblogblackandwhite

Resurrected Tabernacle
This 132 year old pioneer tabernacle in Provo, Utah, was severely burned 5 years ago and now has been resurrected to become the new Provo City Center Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm looking forward to being a part of the open house and dedication, and to attending in the future.

Place of Revelation
"Temples are places of personal revelation. When I have been weighed down by a problem or a difficulty, I have gone to the House of the Lord with a prayer in my heart for answers. The answers have come in clear and unmistakable ways."

Bathed in Light
After attending the Payson Utah temple with my daughter yesterday, I pulled over and took a series of photos and later created this. It's a blend of 5 exposures with post-processing done in Photomatix Pro 5, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Photoshop CC. The star trails are from one of the exposures (60 seconds). Someday I may re-process using a frame without star trails to see how that looks.
The light rays shining up from the temple reminded me of this quotation, which I've always loved, but seems to grow in significance for me over time:
"If you have seen one of the temples at night, fully lighted, you know what an impressive sight that can be. The house of the Lord, bathed in light, standing out in the darkness, becomes symbolic of the power and the inspiration of the gospel of Jesus Christ standing as a beacon in a world that sinks ever further into spiritual darkness." - Boyd K. Packer, "The Holy Temple"HDRbuildingslightmountainsnightreligioussnowstarssymbolismtemplesphotoblogUtahLDSTemplesPayson Utah Temple

Dusk at the Lord's House
On a recent business trip, I drove to the nearest temple and took photos. I always feel peace at or around the Lord's house. The insects from the nearby trees were extremely loud and the air was thick and humid - I also spoke with a few nice people coming out of the temple. The Earth is Made of Rock
A breathtaking and fascinating place. Dead Horse Point, Utah reminded me that our planet is covered in a layer of rock (18 miles deep on average). This erosion-carved canyon, while impressive, doesn't even scratch the surface. What an amazing world we live on.

Perspective
I love how even the visible parts of the temples, inspire uplifting thoughts and actions, and give me perspective. The spires are prominent in the Chicago Illinois Temple. Just after I took this photo, I had to run to my car to avoid getting drenched in a heavy Midwest downpour.
