Sky Alive
I'm fascinated by the heavens. One day, I'll shoot some really stellar photos (pun intended) of the Milky Way. For now, though, this is my best. It was my second attempt to shoot the Milky Way - and both times there were clouds. :) I captured this was captured from along the Skyline Drive in central Utah.

Why Hello, Charlotte!
The skyscrapers of downtown Charlotte, North Carolina glow brightly in the evening light. After my meetings were done, I drove downtown and practiced both my light trails and cityscape photography. I hope you like it. :)

Chicago!
I just spent most of the week in this city on business. I find large cities so interesting...the history, the architecture, the people, and everything else. This is four shots stitched together...which is what caused the distortion...but I like it this way.

Battle of the Little Bighorn
On June 25, 1876 near the Little Bighorn River in Montana, the last Native American victory in battle against the white men occurred. This was a turning point for the Indians - their nomadic way of life soon ended and they moved to the reservations. This battlefield memorial was much more interesting than I'd expected and the sense of history was strong there. This is the Indian memorial near the site of "Custer's last stand".

Electric Light
My wife and I watched the storm ahead of us as we drove through the northeastern corner of Wyoming - until she convinced me to pull over and get some shots. :) It was remote and there was no light except for the lightning...a beautiful experience!

Sunflower
I look this photo in my garden yesterday against an overcast sky. There was a light breeze so the flower was swaying and the bee was moving around pretty quickly, so I was lucky to get this composition and to get it in focus. :)

Green Dragon
My kids and I found this large green dragonfly sitting on our driveway a few days ago. We admired it for a few minutes before it flew away. If you zoom in, you can see tiny black hairs on it's face and even the individual parts of its compound eye.

100 Years and Counting
There have been many rainstorms in the over 100 years this barn has stood on the plains east of the Grand Teton Range in Wyoming. On a drive through last week, the rain stopped just long enough for the sunset colors to peek through the clouds and then it started again.

This Mountain's In Me
It's interesting how a mountain, a scene, a building, a place, etc., can feel so familiar if it was part of our life growing up. This mountain is like that for me. While I've taken many photos of it over the years, this may be my favorite.

Fleeting Blossom
Back in March, I'd had my eye on a bunch of blossoming cherry trees near my home. I finally found some time to go photograph them - and it was just in time, because the next time I passed, the flowers were gone.

Looking up to a Hero
My family and I visited a local cemetery yesterday where some of my ancestors are buried. I happened to glance over and saw my two youngest daughters gazing up at one of the military statues in the war memorial, and captured the moment.
I honor those who gave their "last full measure of devotion" and acted heroically in the situations in which they were placed. The terror of war spotlights the worst of human nature, but it can also bring out the best in people.childrenpeoplephotoblogtributeUtah

Where the People Are
I love modern cities. The incredible diversity in people. The glass and steel buildings. The history, the museums, the parks, the food. This is where the people are. (Salt Lake City, Utah)
