Sunset over the Rockies
Looking west outside of Denver, Colorado. Denver is quite an interesting place. You look one direction and the horizon is flat. You look the other, and you see the jagged peaks of the Rockies. It's part prairie and part mountain.

Baby Face
They're only little once...and there will come a time when I miss these children of mine. It's said that families that play together stay together. How valuable to a child is an hour playing with daddy, or doing something together as a family. I believe that this is a key to a happy and lasting family, and I feel a renewed resolve to make memories with my children while I can...not only will it enrich me, but it will greatly benefit them.

Sunburst
A couple days ago I looked out my window in the morning and saw this beautiful sunrise. If you look closely, you can see sun rays coming out from behind the clouds in every direction.

Burning Sun
Smoke from fires in Southern Utah created this scene today. The smoky air isn't good to breathe, but it does make for striking skies.

I can't even begin to tell how blessed I am to be married to Melissa. She is a beautiful person in every way, a wonderful companion, an inspiration, my loving and loyal friend. I love you, Melissa! Happy Birthday!

Two Hills
One thing I like about where I live is that I'm always relatively close to rugged peaks, to mountain wilderness.

Seeing Through Windows
We all see life through unique windows, or paradigms...and so much of our trouble comes from thinking that our windows are the same as someone else's. We often associate with those whose windows are similar, but even then, they're all unique, framed by our family and upbringing, our life's experiences, our personality, and so much more. Instead of projecting our windows on others and assuming they see things in the same way as us, why not listen and try to see through their windows? It's amazing how much this can help in all of our relationships with others...each of whom sees from behind a unique set of windows.

Lighted Lamps
Looking down the street where I live as the sun went down and the streetlights came on. I love this time of day for several reasons, one of which is the colors of the sky.

Trees in Clouds
I don't often have the opportunity of being in thick fog, but this was incredible. The coolness of the air, the heavily moisture-laden mist. I loved it!

You Deserve It
I love hot, juicy burgers...and since I deserve one...
Actually, this is more than just a crazy sign. Over a year ago my Dad was in the hospital with an unknown medical problem at the time. I was on the way back from visiting him at the hospital where he was recovering and eating hospital food and saw this sign and thought of him. He loves burgers as I do, and he really did deserve one right then. :) I'm grateful that all is well with him now! From All Photos

Atmospheric Obscuration
A few days ago, we had a pretty bad dust storm. When the moon rose that night, there was still enough dust in the air to dim and change the color of its light. The photo hasn't been retouched...that's how it actually looked.

One Month Old
There's nothing quite like the newness, softness and innocence of a new baby. What a great trust we have as parents...we're responsible for the life - physical, spiritual, emotional, social, etc. - of these little people. There is not much that's more wholly the work of God than doing the work of a parent.
"Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations." - The Family: A Proclamation to the World https://www.lds.org/topics/family-proclamation)babiesmacroportraitpeoplephotoblog

Face the Sunlight
There is a significant choice we all face. We can choose to be upbeat and happy or we can allow ourselves to be cynical and despairing.
These words say it best, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we 'accentuate the positive.' I am asking that we look a little deeper for the good, that we still our voices of insult and sarcasm, that we more generously compliment and endorse virtue and effort."

Nature's Fireworks
A friend showed me some tips on how to capture lightning and I'm pleased with my first attempt. This exposure was just over two minutes long, which is why there are so many bolts of lightning in the photo. Do you like the train in the foreground, or does it distract from the lightning? Our fireworks don't hold a candle against the fireworks of nature, do they?

Summit
A view of the summit of Mt. Timpanogos in early summer. This photo is somehow moving to me...maybe it's the old, sepia look, I don't know. It feels somehow nostalgic. I love the feeling of climbing mountains, of scaling the peak. The ascent of mountains really can be an extraordinary experience.

October Comes Quickly
I know that tomorrow is August...still summertime. But October is only two months away. Early autumn and autumn in general is my favorite time of year. I love the warm days and cool nights, the nip in the air, the first snow on the mountains, the colors of the leaves. Only two months away!

Big Dirt Pile
From my vantage point, this looked like a really big dirt pile to me. I've always liked dirt piles. :)
Mountains can be fun, but they can also get in one's way...they can be symbolic of challenges. I am grateful for the pioneers who have blazed the trail, over mountains, both physical, emotional, and spiritual, not to mention big dirt piles like this one. Because of those that have gone before, I enjoy great privileges. Thank you, and happy Pioneer Day (Utah holiday). :)cloudslightmonochromemountainstributephotoblognatureblackandwhite
