Winter Light
This is quite an old photo of mine, taken back in 2003 on the way to a Utah ski resort with a point and shoot camera. No, the quality isn't up to par with my current standards :) but my daughter saw it, loved it, and so I thought I'd share it.

The Action is in the Sky
One thing that photography has taught me is to always look up. Quite often, there's a show going on in the sky that won't ever be exactly repeated. Look up!

Iron's Red
The color of the soil in this photo, taken at Cedar Breaks National Monument in southern Utah, is caused by iron oxide. Parts of it have turned white through "bleaching", a natural process wherein water dissolves the iron oxide and strips its color. Pretty interesting: http://geology.utah.gov/online/pdf/pi-77.pdf

Incredible Flight
Air travel always amazes me. For thousands of years, travel took large amounts of time and was fraught with danger. Now we fly high above it all, passing miles every minute. Truly, flight is incredible. Taken over northern Nebraska, United States.

Red-Winged Blackbirds
These birds were fascinating to watch. Hundreds of them gathered in the top of a tree outside my window, chirping very loudly. Every few minutes, they'd all take off at once, filling the air, fly around a bit, and then settle back in the tree. I watched this happen several times. It was amazing.

Autumn Abstract
I really enjoyed turning my simple photo of a flowing and gurgling river into something that resembles a painting. I used nothing but Adobe Lightroom...creative constraint. :)

Contemplating Change
Sunlight streamed through the yellow aspens as he stood alone, at the water's edge. "The season is changing", he thought. "So must I." At Payson Lakes, Utah.

Illuminated
This is a view from my home, with the setting sun illuminating the mountain. Photography literally means light writing, or writing with light, and we've had lots of beautiful sunset light lately.

Emanation
I'm experimenting with astrophotography and this one didn't turn out...but I made it into an abstract I liked. The 20 minute exposure you're looking at contains a combination of star trails, camera noise, and an over-exposed night sky. :)

Fade to Cold
The ending of the color on the trees and the color in the sky signals the onset of cold in the high mountains. Mt. Nebo (Utah) shows off a dusting of mid-October snow. I was at about 9000 feet when I took this photo and it was 28 degrees F. Brrrr!
